Dog owners who let their pets out on their own are being warned they could be fined.
Darlington Council said it was determined to stamp out the problem of "latch key dogs" roaming the streets.
As part of its Dish the Dirt campaign it is urging town residents to report owners who let their pets out alone.
A council spokesman said owners should be in control of their pets at all time and were responsible for cleaning up after them if they foul pavements. Source: BBC News
