Missing Dog Walkers Body Found
A body recovered by divers from the Grand Union Canal in Leamington Spa's Old Town has been confirmed as that of a man missing since Saturday.
Wayne Hassell, 37, left his home in Eagle Street, Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, during the afternoon to take his dog for a walk.
His dog was seen later that day wandering about on its own. Mr Hassell's body was found on Tuesday.

More Dogs On Streets

Dogs charities warn a change in the law making councils solely responsible for picking up stray dogs means they will not be dealt with out-of-hours.
Within a few minutes of arriving on the Homewood estate in Bradford, we find a small pack of stray dogs.
They have grouped together and are roaming the area, on the loose and possibly in danger. We see one run away from the dog warden straight into the path of car. The driver just manages to miss it.
Stephen Wilkinson regularly patrols this area on his rounds as dog warden.
He says he always finds strays, and only some can be reunited with their owners. Many owners deny they have let their dogs roam freely and always promise to keep them indoors, but Mr Wilkinson says it is often the same dogs on the loose.
He is called to a house where a young couple have taken a stray in after finding her wandering the streets.
Mr Wilkinson regularly spends his days taking the strays found to kennels, in this case in Ossett in Wakefield.
'Gap to fill'
But none of the dog wardens work in the evenings, and from Sunday they will have to rely on the public to collect strays out of hours.
Jim Aviard, an environmental health officer in Bradford, says the changes will leave a time gap when the council will not be able to collect strays.
He said: "The police are available 24/7, we are not. So we now have a gap to fill between finishing work on a Monday night and opening on a Tuesday morning."
At the kennels there are dozens of dogs that have been collected off the streets. A worker from the charity Dogs Trust arrives to take a few to their kennels for re-homing.
It's only your true dog lovers that are going to go that extra mile to help the dogs
Amanda Sands
Leeds Dogs Trust
Amanda Sands, the manager of Leeds Dogs Trust, said councils would not have the resources to deal with strays 24 hours a day and the public may not want to help either.
"It's only your true dog lovers that are going to go that extra mile to help the dogs," she said. "You're asking them to handle dogs they don't know as well, and that could put people at risk."
The lucky few dogs are loaded into the van to be taken for re-homing. Last year more than 105,000 strays were picked up and of those almost 8,000 were eventually put down.
That may well be the fate of some of the dogs left behind at the Ossett kennels.
But Amanda also said the extra £4m being given to councils to help with these changes, would not be enough.
It works out at approximately £9,000 per council per year. She says it is just not enough money to provide an out-of-hours service and more dogs will end up on the streets for longer.
"They could start forming into a pack in the worst instances," she says.
"If they're out on the streets longer they are more likely to be involved in road accidents. There are many repercussions." Source: BBC News

Pc Johnson was hit by 12 pellets in the top of her leg
A 54-year-old man from Lancashire has appeared in court charged with the attempted murder of a police dog handler on New Year's Eve.

He was remanded in custody by magistrates in Preston.
Pc Johnson was among several officers responding to a 999 call after a gang of robbers stole £11,300 from the Hospital Inn.
Four members of staff were tied up and left in the bathroom during the raid.
Pc Johnson suffered 12 pellet wounds in her thigh and returned to work last month.

Stray dog saves Abandoned Baby from certain Death

A stray dog saved an abandoned baby from certain death in freezing temperatures in Romania.
The hound stood guarding the child and barking and howling in a public park until it alerted passers-by to investigate.
They heard the child's cries and found the baby girl hidden in a plastic bag under a picnic table. The baby is recovering in hospital - and the maternity unit has adopted the stray dog.
Doctors say the newborn would most likely have died from hypothermia very quickly unless the stray dog hadn't discovered her.
The umbilical cord was still attached. She was taken to a hospital from Oradea in Arad county.
Dr Gheorghe Tirla said: "It is a normal baby-girl of three kilos. She was lucky with that dog or she could have frozen to death.
"She hadn't even had the umbilical cord severed but everything turned out fine and she is now recovering."
The baby is going to be placed in an orphanage, reports the National newspaper.
Police are trying to find the mother of the baby. Source: Annanova

Wishing you all a Happy Fourth Of July
Happy Fourth of July to you and your families. Have fun and enjoy and take along the family pet so he can also enjoy the fourth. On this very dry Fourth of July, nothing is knee-high
except to the grasshoppers, going out of their little minds,
sending messages of love all around, but no one listens,
no one believes, no one hears them above the explosions.
Enjoy and Happy Fourth Of July....

Oldest Dog Breaks Record
Butch, world's oldest dog, gets in Guiness book of records VA 'His name is Butch. He's a beagle. His title is etched in official Guinness World Records certification and he earned it by living for 27 years. That's something like, um - wait a minute and let me check my math - 189 in human years... His eyes, however, are bright and his tail still wags. He still begs for petting, and as with all beagles, food is a major holiday to celebrate often. On regular occasions he lets loose and does a bit of running about the house...'
