Many Home Remedies are better then what you buy at the store

Many loving dog owners today have turned to natural home remedies for dogs as an alternative to using questionable and possibly dangerous commercial products.

Many of these natural home remedies for dogs are quite easy to obtain. For example, do you have garlic in your kitchen? Most people do and use it to cook up tasty dishes but never consider that it is an effective flea repellant.

Georgia Man is Honored for his Efforts to Rescue 100+ Homeless Dogs

The “Very Old Stray (the Old Fella Story)”



When Richard and his wife Sue hopped into their RV and set out for a relaxing Labor Day vacation in 2005, they had no idea their lives were about to change forever. Resting at the Modoc Campground in South Carolina, the couple met their new life companion—in the form of an old, wounded stray dog. Richard and Sue took in the dog, who they named Old Fella, and nursed him back to health. A member of the Good Sam Club, the world’s largest RV owner’s organization, Richard began sharing his experiences on the organization’s RV.net forums and quickly discovered a vast following of other club members that sent him words of encouragement and monetary donations towards Old Fella’s medical bills. Through the “Very Old Stray (the Old Fella Story)” thread, the forum members eventually convinced Richard to establish his own animal shelter, Old Fella Burke County Animal Rescue (OFBCAR), which has saved more than 100 dogs and placed them in good homes.



Sadly, Old Fella passed away this June after struggling for months with arthritis and bone cancer. In loving memory of Old Fella and his legacy as an animal rescue icon, Richard and his devoted animal-loving community will be erecting a statue of Old Fella in the First National Bank Park in Waynesboro, Ga. in 2009. In another remarkable story, Richard spearheaded an effort to transport a disabled dog to her new home across the country by fellow RV.net forum members. In an effort coordinated by postings on the site, Anna, a Labrador retriever who had a leg amputated, was relayed from RV to RV from Georgia to Washington State. Through OFBCAR and RV.net, Richard has not only found homes for these animals, but also blessed families around the country with lifelong companions of their own.

Inspired by his dedication and contagious generosity towards stray animals, Highways Magazine has honored Waynesboro, Ga. native Richard Daniels with the first-ever Good Sam Club’s RVer of the Year award. As a tribute to his humanitarian contributions, Highways will feature Richard on the front cover.

I Came across this article on guy-sports.com on the internet “its a Dog’s Life “and right away it caught my attention because there was a time when this phrase was used it meant that we were in a bad way. It meant we were not doing so good! It meant life was not good! and that everything was turning out wrong nothing would turn out the way you wanted it to.; Each day was worse then the one before so this is why we said “its a Dog’s Life cause then dogs didn’t have it so easy! Dogs were not dressed up in little cute frilly outfits are leather collars with diamonds . Dogs diid not have soft fluffy beds to sleep in,Or cute clean pretty bowls or dishes to eat their dog food out of andl most dogs slept outside in the cold and rain, And now dogs even sleep in the same bed as their masters! OOPS!! I forgot we don’t even use the word Master anymorel.. Now its Dog Lovers or Dog owners or even Family.(which by the way I prefer those then Master) Nowadays if your living a Dog’s life you have it good!! OOH do not get me wrong their are still alot of dogs out there who still need our help and love and we should give it But what I mean is that Phrase does not have quite the same meaning now then it used to.. SMILE…I read the origin of the catchphrase ‘It’s a Dog’s Life’ is obscure. One of the earliest popular reference is Charlie Chaplin’s 1918 film called ‘A Dog’s Life’. There is also a well known 1955 film by Herman Hoffman, this title include the It’s - ‘It’s a Dog’s Life’.




The phrase is so evocative of the downtrodden hero, that it’s perfect for Charles M. Schulz’s Snoopy. It’s a dog’s life has also inspired music and also T.V. episodes of popular programs such as ‘Murder She Wrote’.

There was a time when dogs weren’t allowed in the house. Dogs were fed scraps and if they were lucky they had a kennels. Thus a whole family of sayings arose around ‘It’s a dogs life’. For example, going to the dogs, dog tired, dog’s dinner, dogsbody and dog eat dog.



HOWEVER, nowadays, dogs have it cushy, they live indoors are pampered with dog food, and even get their own dog basket. In consequence the young generation are perplexed by the saying, ‘It’s a dogs life’.

Training a dog is a little easier if the dog is content. When training a dog, use the following teaching tips:



Provide plenty of exercise

You’re the “Alpha Dog” and control the pack. It’s very important that you feel and believe this, because your dog will sense it if you don’t. A stern voice and confidence goes a long way when training a dog.
Most important of all, “Praise”. All dogs want to please their owners and that is why praising him is as equally important. Let him know you’re proud of him and he’s doing a great job, then slip him one of his favorite treats.

Does Your Dog Suffer from Anxiety Attacks?

Four-legged animals are as inclined to experience stress as their two-legged owners. While your dog won’t labour over where his next meal will come from, he may wrestle with his own fears and anxieties. Fear may be associated with a particular person or gender, or a specific situation, such as a visit to the veterinarian’s office. Dogs may become anxious when their owners are away, when they hear certain noises such as thunder or fireworks, when a new pet enters the house or an animal companion dies.

Eliminating the cause is the first step in preventing your dog’s anxiety attacks. If your dog runs under the bed during a thunderstorm, the source of the stress is clear, but sometimes the cause of the stress is more difficult to determine.
To help a nervous pet, try some of these tension-easing tips.:

1. If your dog has a fear of thunder or fireworks, desensitising your pet is almost impossible. Instead, provide a place in your home away from windows and doors in which he can wait out the storm and keep a radio on to help drown out the sounds of the thunder or fireworks.
2. If your dog experiences anxiety over a new pet addition to the home, introduce the animals gradually.

3. Dogs may experience stress at being left alone. Consider the option of adopting or purchasing a second dog to keep your existing dog company.

4. If your dog seems anxious when you are away even for short periods of time, leave the television or a radio on.
5. If your dog becomes stressed because you are moving to a new home, take him to your new home before you move in, if possible, and allow him to investigate the surroundings. Give your dog some treats or play with him in the new home so he will associate something positive with the experience.
6. If the appearance of a new baby or new spouse in your home is making your dog anxious, try to keep things as normal as possible. Stick to your dog’s regular schedule and give him plenty of attention.
7. If your dog grieves due to the loss of an animal companion, give him plenty of love and affection. After some time passes, consider a new animal playmate.

Twas the night before Christmas


when all thru the house



Not a creature was stirring

not even a mouse.



The stockings were hung by the chimney with care

In hopes that St. Nick soon would be there.



The children all nestled snug in their beds

With no thought of the dog filling their head.



And mom in her kerchief and I in my cap

Knew the dog was cold, but didn’t care about that.



When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter

I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.



Away to the window I flew like a flash

Figuring the dog was free of his chain and into the trash.



The moon on the breast of the new fallen snow

gave the luster of mid-day to objects below.



When what to my wondering eyes should appear

But Santa Clause with his eyes full of tears.



He unchained the dog once so lively and quick

Last year’s Christmas present now painfully sick.



More rapid than eagles he called the dog’s name

and the dog ran to him despite all his pain.



Now Dasher, now Dancer, now Prancer and Vixen

On Comet on Cupid on Donner and Blitzen.



To the top of the porch to the top of the wall

Let’s find this dog a home where he will be loved by all.



I knew in an instant there would be no gifts this year

For Santa had made one thing quite clear.



The gift of a dog is not just for the season

Is it Bad to Feed Your Dog Table Scraps?

A dog could really bank on table scraps around 20 years ago, but with the food nowadays you loose both quality and quantity, and the amount of scraps has declined. Most meats come already precut, trimmed and packaged in its package and ready to be cooked without much alterations. Milk comes from cartons now and poultry comes from prepackaged cartons. Now, most foods come prepackaged in small convenient quantities so it can be adjusted for family portions.

Young 'should not touch animals'

I read this article in the news and thought you all may find it important and also interesting, I know I did.

Microbiologist warns over petting farms
Parents should not allow under-fives to touch animals at petting farms, a microbiologist has said amid E.coli fears involving four sites.

Prof Hugh Pennington said they were the most likely people to touch animals but the hardest to get to wash their hands.

The Department of Health (DoH) said it was not changing its guidance - contact was okay if good hand hygiene followed.

Two petting farms in Surrey, one in Nottinghamshire and one in Devon have shut attractions owing to E.coli fears.

Prof Pennington said that parents should not "abandon the idea of visiting" petting farms, but they should "think very hard" about letting children under five touch the animals.

Hand-washing was "absolutely crucial" to protect visitors to petting farms, and under-fives "haven't learned how to do it yet".

"These very young kids are the most likely part of the population to get complications if they get infected," he added.

But the DoH said its advice remained the same - children could pet animals but should practice good hand hygiene.

"Direct contact is not what presents the risk, it's what happens afterwards. If you use good hand hygiene and other measures, you hopefully shouldn't get it," a spokesperson said.

"Ill health following a visit to an open farm is unusual, even among children, and these risks need to be balanced against the benefits for a child's education and development that arise from contact with animals."

Current guidance was under review following the recent E.coli outbreaks, the spokesperson added.

And Miranda Stevenson, director of the British & Irish Association of Zoos & Aquariums, said there were strict licensing regulations for zoos and there were always either gels or washing facilities were animals could be handled.

"The message to parents is to make sure that children wash their hands or put gel on their hands, after they have handled animals," she said.

"It's so good for the children - one would hate to get to the stage where we had to stop them doing it."

Closed voluntarily

Hundreds of members of the public have e-mailed the BBC News website with the majority expressing opposition to a ban on the petting of animals.

Prof Ron Cutler, an expert on infectious diseases at Queen Mary University of London, said more needed to be done to enable children to keep visiting petting farms and zoos.

Operators should think about giving visitors nail brushes to clean their hands after touching animals, he said.

Prof Pennington, who has led inquiries into E.coli outbreaks in central Scotland and south Wales, said: "Clearly I think the public expects that we have a really good look at the guidelines.

"And also to look at the way the guidelines are being implemented - it's all very well having guidelines if people are not following them."

World of Country Life, in Exmouth, Devon, voluntarily closed its petting areas and deer train ride following infections in three children who visited the farm last month - although the farm has not been confirmed as the source.

Rare strain

Four people became infected after visiting White Post Farm at Farnsfield, Nottinghamshire, though no direct link has been confirmed there.

Forty-nine cases of E.coli have been linked to Godstone Farm in Surrey, with its sister farm - Horton Park Children's Farm in Epsom - also closing because of hygiene concerns.

Whether to stay away from such attractions is "a decision for parents based on a balance of risks", its advice says.

Nine children are being treated in hospital with Godstone Farm-linked infections; one is due to be allowed home later on Saturday, with the others remaining in a stable condition, according to the HPA.

Lab tests have identified the most serious E.coli strain, 0157, which can cause serious kidney damage in a small proportion of cases.

There are about 20,000 cases of E.coli reported in England, Wales and Northern Ireland every year but last year just 950 cases in England and Wales were the 0157 strain.

Dog Walker who died loved life

The family of a man who died in a collision with a car while walking his dog at night have paid tribute to him.
Gary Turner, 43, died following the crash in Murlande Way, a cul-de-sac in the Vale of Glamorgan village of Rhoose at 2220 BST on Thursday.
His family said he was a well-known character who "loved life and everything to do with the outdoors".
South Wales Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision to contact them on 101.
It involved a green Daewoo Lanos car.
In a statement Mr Turner's family said: "Our brother Gary Turner was tragically taken away from us and will be greatly missed by all he left behind, especially his partner, his children, nieces and nephews.
"He had time for everyone and was very popular and will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him."
Officers are also keen to hear from people who saw Mr Turner's movements before the collision. Source: Internet News

Owners warned against pet rescues

Dog owners are being warned of the dangers of entering ponds and rivers after an animal got into difficulty.
West Sussex Fire and Rescue were called to woodland behind Leonardslee Gardens, Lower Beeding, after a woman waded into a 7ft (2m) deep pond to find her dog.
Several fire engines were sent to the scene, but the dog was not found.
Deputy District Commander for Horsham, Marvin Smith, warned people not to put themselves in any unnecessary risk as "dangerous situations can escalate".
"You should always call the emergency services in the first instance," he said.
"We did all we could in this particular situation to locate the missing dog, but unfortunately our efforts were unsuccessful."
The incident happened on Wednesday morning.

Dangling dog rescued from ledge

It makes me feel good to read stories like this one that show people who care enough to get involed and help to save a dog.
Firefighters in Bristol rescued a dog that had slipped from a window sill and was left dangling by its paws 50ft (15m) above the ground.
When crews arrived in the early hours of Friday they found a neighbour on a ladder supporting the dog's weight.
After assisting the neighbour, fire officers returned the dog to its owner of the second-floor flat, who was asleep in bed.
It is believed the window may have been open and the dog had slipped.
"Fortunately the dog, possibly a boxer cross, was uninjured in the ordeal," an Avon Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman

It takes a village of some 4 million to raise six cuddly pups, or at least to ogle them for hours on end.
What began as a way for a San Francisco couple to keep tabs on their pet Shiba Inu dog Kika’s litter while they were at work has become an unlikely Web sensation. Viewers flock to the Internet site Ustream to monitor the 5-week-old brood’s growth, watching the energetic pups paw and play with one another and have at it with their chew toys.
TODAY peppered its Saturday program with peeks into the puppy’s lair, giving the brood of six their first network exposure outside their spreading fame on the Internet.
